The Himalayas are a mountain range located in the Indian sub-continent. The highest point is Mount Everest at 29,029 feet above sea level. The mountain range is 1,500 miles. Many of the peaks in the Himalayan Mountain Range are sacred in both Buddhism and Hinduism. The Himalayas are bordered on the north by the Tibetan Plateau, on the south by Indo-Gangetic Plain, on the northwest by the Karakoram and Hindu Kush ranges, and on the east by the Indian states of Assam and Aranuchal Pradesh. Three of the world’s major rivers start in the Himalayas – the Indus River (flows for 1,800 miles) , the Ganges River (flows for 1,678 miles) and the Brahmaputra (flows for 1,800 miles) River.
